The Mount Diablo Unified School District Board of Education approved an asset purchase agreement June 25 authorizing conveyance of KVHS assets to the Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE).
What happened: The board approved the asset purchase agreement and delegated authority to the superintendent to execute required documents, including steps needed to comply with Federal Communications Commission rules. The motion to approve was made by Trustee Mason, seconded by Trustee McDougall, and adopted 4-0.
Why it matters: KVHS, the district’s educational radio/television facility, has a long history as a student training ground. County officials said the CCCOE plans to preserve KVHS as a community and education resource and to partner with local colleges and media organizations to expand hands-on career and technical education (CTE) opportunities.
County statement: Marcus Walton, director of communications and special projects for the Contra Costa County Office of Education, told the board the county is “proud and privileged to have the opportunity to continue the work KVHS has been doing for more than 50 years” and described early conversations with Diablo Valley College, the Contra Costa Youth Journalism Project and local public media to expand student training in new media.
Board direction: The board also delegated to the superintendent authority to finalize sale documents and FCC-related filings. Trustees said they welcomed the county’s stewardship and noted the transfer could preserve KVHS as a local training and CTE asset.
Provenance: Presentation and vote occurred under agenda item 19.8 (transcript segments beginning at 9034.546).
