The Los Angeles City Council Committee on Housing and People Experiencing Homelessness on Wednesday approved two mayoral nominations and moved them forward for consideration by the full council.
The committee voted 3-0 to confirm the mayor’s nomination of Elín Morales to serve as a commissioner on the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles. Morales introduced herself to the committee and described personal experience with public housing and her work as a teacher in South Los Angeles.
The committee also voted 3-0 to confirm Roberto Barragán to the oversight committee identified in the agenda as the “United House and Ley Oversight” committee. Barragán, introduced by staff and described in the record as the executive director of IconCDC, outlined his community-development work in Pacoima and the San Fernando Valley.
Committee members thanked both nominees, noted that required financial-disclosure paperwork must be completed before the nominations proceed to the full council, and said they welcomed the lived experience and development experience each nominee offered.
