Clatsop County adopts resolution backing Tongue Point Job Corps Center after injunctive relief

The proclamation presented to the board said the Tongue Point Job Corps Center has served as a workforce-training institution since 1964, offers free education and career technical training to people ages 16 through 24, and operates the only maritime training program in the Job Corps system. The resolution text, read aloud to the board, said the center serves more than 300 young people and generates about $16,000,000 in regional economic impact.
The resolution directs that copies be sent to Oregon’s congressional delegation and the U.S. Department of Labor and urges state and federal leaders to maintain or expand support for Job Corps programs — especially in rural and coastal communities, the proclamation said. The board authorized the chair to sign the proclamation.
No members of the public spoke on the item during the public comment period. The board approved the proclamation by voice vote; the meeting record notes the motion carried but does not list a roll-call tally.
