The Mount Diablo Unified School District Board of Education approved a series of personnel appointments and related employment actions during its June 11 meeting.
Staff presented a set of appointments from Human Resources and asked the board to confirm each. The board voted, by recorded motions and seconds, to approve the following (motion details and vote tallies recorded at the meeting):
- Alan Barrera Orellana — appointment as student board member for the 2025–26 school year; motion carried (vote recorded as 5‑0‑0‑0). He will take the oath at the August 13 board meeting. - Ryan Sheehy — appointment as Chief of Human Resources; motion by Trustee Mason, second by Trustee McDougall; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Leonie Medina Estrada — appointment as Executive Director of Human Resources and Risk Management; motion by Trustee Kount, second by Trustee Mason; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Keisha Emmendorfer — appointment as Director of Human Resources; motion by Trustee Nzewi, second by Trustee Mason; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Martha Thomas — appointment as Director of Assessment, Research and Evaluation; motion by Trustee Mason, second by Trustee McDougall; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Brenda Barbara — appointment as Director of Budget, Accounting and Fiscal Compliance; motion by Trustee Kount, second by Trustee Nzewi; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Matthew Rosso — appointment as Director of Technology and Innovation; motion by Trustee Kount, second by Trustee McDougall; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Nicole Bergland — appointment as principal, Walnut Acres Elementary School; motion and second recorded; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Jeannie (Jeanne) Johnson — appointment as principal, El Dorado Middle School; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Jamie Keith — appointment as principal, Valley View Middle School; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Dr. Ronald Richardson — appointment as principal, College Park High School; approved 5‑0‑0‑0. - Megan O’Malley — appointment as principal, Prospect Continuation High School and Horizon Center for Independent Study; approved 5‑0‑0‑0.
The board also approved a first amendment to the employment agreement for Suzanne Starczyk Kim as general counsel (amended term through Feb. 28, 2028; salary and step referenced in the amendment). A motion for that amendment carried 5‑0‑0‑0.
All appointment motions were introduced by Human Resources and individually moved and seconded at the meeting. Newly appointed staff spoke briefly after approval and were welcomed by trustees.
