City staff explained the amendment applies to project Milwaukee Avenue (Fourth Street to the north city limits), a 2022 bond-funded project. When the project was originally designed staff assumed the county planned to extend and widen the roadway beyond the city limit; the county later withdrew that work. To avoid a design that ends abruptly where the county segment was expected to begin, staff said they need a design change at the north limit and requested an amendment of roughly $58,000 to the existing engineering contract to address the tie-in.
Council voted to approve the amendment. Staff said the change is limited to the city’s portion and will ensure the city’s construction pays proper attention to the transition at the northern end of the project.
Why this matters: the amendment preserves constructability and reduces the risk of a substandard roadway termination where jurisdictional responsibility changes from city to county.
Implementation: staff will execute the amendment with the project consultant and proceed with revised design work needed for construction bidding and right-of-way coordination.
