Lake Oswego Planning Commission cancels July meeting, hears farewell for Commissioner Rigby and sets schedule for housing and tree-code work

At its June 23 meeting the City of Lake Oswego Planning Commission announced schedule changes for summer meetings, noted City Council action on a refreshments policy, and held a brief farewell for departing Commissioner Rigby.

Chair Mitchell said the commission will cancel its July 14 meeting and move some items into longer, more productive work sessions later in the summer. "On July 28, we are planning to talk about fair housing policy," Mitchell said, and she listed other scheduled items: a first work session on tree-regulation amendments on July 28, a hearing on home-occupation standards on Aug. 11 and a work session on the Foothills public-involvement strategy on Aug. 25.

The commission also acknowledged City Council's recent adoption of a resolution establishing a new city policy on refreshments, which Chair Mitchell said permits the planning commission to continue prior practices. The resolution was adopted at the June 17 council meeting, according to remarks at the planning commission session.

Commissioners paused to recognize Commissioner Rigby, who is leaving the commission in July. Chair Mitchell and other commissioners praised Rigby for bringing a distinct viewpoint to the commission and for constructive participation. Commissioner Rigby said, "it's been, you know, it's been an interesting, couple of years here," and encouraged current and future commissioners to prioritize residents' interests when considering policy.

Commission staff noted boards-and-commissions orientation is scheduled for the next day and said a new commissioner will begin service in July. No formal votes or policy decisions were made by the Planning Commission during the meeting on these items; the announcements were administrative and scheduling in nature.

The commission adjourned after the schedule update and farewell remarks.
