Middletown Area SD reports operations building delay; elementary construction on track
Summary
District operations staff said work on the new operations building has been delayed to mid-August because of utility outages, but elementary construction and other utility hookups remain on schedule.
Operations Director Mr. Meiser told the board that work on the district's operations building is behind schedule because of a PPL power outage and related utility issues, and crews now expect a mid-August completion date for the operations building work.
Meiser said PPL's coordination with PennDOT changed the utilities approach: a PPL supervisor agreed to provide a back feed to the 283 airport connector, which reduced a projected change order for generators from about $13,000 to approximately $4,000. He also said UGI crews were on-site to connect gas and that a short shutdown at the middle school would be required to complete utility work. Meiser reported that other site work, including preparation for an elementary-level construction project and HVAC and flooring installations, continues "on schedule" aside from the utility timing uncertainties.
Mrs. Moore and other board members received the update during the unfinished business operations section; no formal action was taken at that time.
