Board hears progress reports on Del Mar Hills, Ashley Falls and Carmel Del Mar modernizations

District facilities staff updated the board Wednesday on three school modernization projects: Del Mar Hills Academy, Ashley Falls and Carmel Del Mar.
Nathan Wolf and Facilities Director Chris Delhanty said work at Del Mar Hills is largely on track for summer completion: solar panels are mounted on the roof, most concrete walkways are poured, and interior flooring and furniture installation were scheduled for early July. “All the solar panels are on the roof. Final connections are coming up real soon,” Wolf said.
Nut graf: Del Mar Hills is moving toward occupation this summer; Ashley Falls remains in planning and community-engagement phases; Carmel Del Mar’s larger design questions — including a library innovation center and multi-use room (MUR) — will undergo further study and are not scheduled for major construction until at least summer 2026.
Delhanty said furniture delivery was scheduled to begin July 7, with staff access and classroom set-up targeted the week before school starts (early August), subject to final installation and testing. Technology work — wireless access points and classroom panels — is being programmed and tested to reduce day‑one issues, he told trustees.
Ashley Falls remains under architectural planning with community engagement pending, staff said. For Carmel Del Mar, architects are developing scope and cost estimates for academic-area improvements, the building envelope and site work; the library/innovation center remains a focus of further design study. Delhanty cautioned that bidding the projects in smaller pieces would likely raise costs; staff plan to return in August–September with more detailed timelines and cost options.
