City staff reviewed consent-agenda items that will be presented for approval at the next council meeting: renewal of a cybersecurity training subscription and replacement/overhaul of the fire department’s SCBA-testing equipment.
A staff member explained the cybersecurity item is a renewal of a training program that requires employees to watch training videos and pass tests to stay current on phishing and other cyber threats; the item appears on page 1 of the work-session packet.
On the fire-department item, staff said the department’s SCBA testing machine has been in service for approximately 15 years and is now incompatible with the department’s newer breathing apparatus. The packet notes a prior grant helped acquire new equipment; staff said the new testing service is needed to perform annual testing of the department’s 36 SCBA units. The fire chief was present to answer questions.
Council members asked clarifying questions about SCBA versus SCUBA equipment and the extent to which the units get wet; staff clarified SCBA is for breathing in firefighting applications and is not the same as underwater SCUBA gear. Council did not take action in the work session; both items were described as consent items to be considered for approval at the next regular meeting.
