Board renews PSBA membership after prolonged access dispute; solicitor to pursue refund

Board members described a breakdown in access to PSBA’s online resources for Christina Versalas (referred to in the meeting transcript), saying she had lacked advertised membership benefits since March 2024. Several board members said their attempts to fix the problem through PSBA leadership were handled by PSBA counsel and had not fully restored email updates and other advertised benefits; administrators said some portal access was restored shortly before the June 23 meeting but that email updates remained missing.
The board instructed solicitor Mister Hoffman (board counsel) to demand a refund or credit from PSBA for the period of lost access; the solicitor said his first step would be a demand letter and that valuation and next steps would depend on PSBA’s response. Board members suggested starting with a pro rata credit (1/9 of the fee was offered as an initial negotiating position in discussion), but noted valuation of membership services could be more complicated.
Administrators and board members also cautioned that canceling PSBA membership would have operational consequences: staff said the PSBA Policy News Network and other services are embedded in district workflows and that losing access could disrupt policy updates and legal/regulatory alerts. Some board members said the district would seek alternatives if the dispute was not resolved by next year.
After the discussion, the motion to renew PSBA membership passed. Board members said they will proceed with a demand to PSBA for reimbursement or credit and will revisit the long‑term relationship if the association does not fully remedy the access problems.
