The Midwest City Council on June 24 approved an amendment to the city’s agreement with R.L. Shears Company in the amount of $40,300 to develop construction documents for a new basketball court and rehabilitate an existing court at Mid America Park.
Parks staff described the existing court as aged and in need of rehabilitation and said the amendment will support design and construction documents to build a new court and renovate the current surface. Council members and staff noted positive usage at new parks funded by the 2018 general obligation bond and said improving existing park assets is a priority.
The council approved the amendment by voice vote; staff said the contract term will be extended to complete the design work. Council members thanked staff and cited steady use of the park as justification for the investment.
