The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a design review modification Tuesday that changes the approved open‑space amenities on Lot 30, Block 1 of the Journey’s End subdivision.
Doug Hansen, planning and zoning director, said the site originally included a pool and clubhouse approved with a 2015 preliminary plat. The applicant proposed replacing those amenities with a park containing a gazebo, play structure, picnic tables, benches and a pickleball court.
Steve Arnold of 18 Land Consultants, representing the applicant, explained the change stemmed from adjustments to multi‑family footprints and that the project provides additional open space elsewhere in the subdivision to compensate. Arnold said the earlier fourplex units were reduced and the new plan enlarges unit footprints, producing an additional 7,000 square feet of park to the north of the remodeled open space.
Staff reviewed the proposal for compliance with Kuna City Code and recommended approval with the conditions listed in the staff report. Commissioners agreed the park will offer more year‑round value than a pool and voted to approve the design review with staff‑recommended conditions.
