Votes at a glance: Sweetwater board approves negotiation letter, promotes animal-control worker, and awards erosion-control materials

At its workshop the mayor and board of commissioners recorded three formal approvals: the board authorized sending an amended letter to Monroe County to begin negotiations about Sweetwater High School; it approved promoting a temporary animal-control worker to full-time status while a regular employee remains on workers' compensation; and it authorized purchasing erosion-control material for High Street from Jen Hill.

The board approved the negotiation letter after amending it to extend the negotiation deadline to Jan. 1, 2026, and to make explicit that the letter is a proposal to begin negotiations rather than a binding offer. The vote on the amended letter was carried by roll call: Commissioner Hughes — Aye; Commissioner Richardson — Aye; Commissioner Jenks — Aye; Commissioner Stutz — Aye; Commissioner Mosher — Absent.

Staff reported that a temporary employee in animal control has been covering duties while the regular animal-control officer is out on workers' compensation; the board voted to promote that temporary worker to full-time status with the understanding the permanent employee would be returned to the position if and when they are cleared to resume duties. The motion to hire the worker full-time passed by voice vote; no roll call names were recorded.

The board opened and reviewed two bids to address erosion along High Street, then voted to purchase the specified stabilization material from Jen Hill for $46,022.66. The bid package includes 23 rolls of FlexMat and related anchors and freight; installation was not included in the vendor's stated price, and the city will coordinate installation with staff.

All three actions carried at the workshop. The board directed staff to record the personnel promotion and to proceed with ordering the erosion-control material once procurement paperwork is completed.
