Southfield Council approves consent items, zoning text amendment and $400,000 receiver loan; several routine contracts authorized

Southfield City Council on June 23 approved a slate of routine and substantive measures, including the transfer of several routine contracts and purchases, a zoning text amendment, a community development block grant annual plan and a $400,000 reimbursement agreement for maintenance of a foreclosed commercial property.

The council voted on consent agenda items A through I, approved renewal of the PROTEC (telecommunications right-of-way encroachment membership), authorized OHM Advisors to develop a master plan for Freeway Park for $35,500, enacted ordinance 18-13 to amend uses in the OS (office service) zoning district to allow limited retail and restaurant uses in certain areas, and affirmed the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) annual action plan for fiscal year 2025–26. The council also approved a property maintenance reimbursement agreement to provide a $400,000 line of credit to the court-appointed receiver for the former Embassy Suites property, to be reimbursed with interest upon sale of the asset.
