Documentary on Enid’s Marshallese community wins festival prize; local screening planned

Fields said the filmmakers, who began work about three years ago, filmed in multiple Enid locations including New View Apartments, downtown, Enid schools and at the Oklahoma State Capitol. Fields said the film follows a Marshallese student who went on to play college football and includes Enid Public Schools staff and community members.
Fields said Errol Morris is listed as executive producer and that a relative of Johnny Cash wrote the score. She said the filmmakers had a call with the United Nations about the film and that inquiries were arriving from outside Oklahoma. Fields said the filmmakers hope to sell the film to a streaming platform; meanwhile they are arranging festival showings and are planning a local screening in Enid.
Board members thanked Fields for representing the district and the Marshallese community. Fields said she would help the filmmakers arrange a screening in Enid once dates are available.
