Residents press commission on homelessness, parks and code enforcement; county outlines homeless liaison and partner network

Other citizens raised maintenance concerns at county parks and playgrounds. Asia Moore listed a series of parks she said needed repairs, asked whether park funds were being used as intended, and criticized an “administrative sign-off” process she said had uneven outcomes. Several commissioners and County staff responded: Public‑works and parks staff reported that specific repairs were scheduled or in progress and gave target dates for playground resurfacing and replacements. Community Services staff confirmed work scheduled for Delta Woods, Rogers Park and Anderson Snow playgrounds, and said some surface repairs were expected by July.
On homelessness, County Administrator Jeff Rogers and staff described an ongoing multi‑partner effort. Rogers said the county had hired a homeless liaison and convenes a monthly coordination meeting that includes nonprofit partners, the Housing Authority, provider agencies and local congregations. The county also recently approved a housing master plan and is using federal HUD funding and other federal dollars to support local providers; county staff said some funds will be directed to partner organizations that provide supportive services and short-term financial assistance. Administrator Rogers encouraged residents to attend the monthly coordination meeting and to contact housing staff for updates.
Ending: Commissioners acknowledged the complexity of homelessness and the public desire for clearer action. Several commissioners urged continued partnership with nonprofits and continued use of federal grant funds while noting that large capital solutions such as building a permanent county-run shelter would require additional planning and resources beyond what the county can implement immediately.
