MISD reports preliminary MAP/STAAR growth and sharp gains in college, career and military readiness

McKinney ISD presented preliminary student assessment results and College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) data at the June 23 board meeting, reporting above'typical national growth on MAP and substantial gains in CCMR after expanding dual credit and career pathways.
An assessment staff member summarized MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) findings, noting district growth percentiles exceeded the national norm (50th percentile) in science (67th growth percentile this year) and posted above'typical growth in reading and math compared with the prior year. The presenter cautioned that MAP and STAAR measure different constructs: MAP is a norm'referenced growth assessment, while STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) measures standards alignment and has more rigorous item design.
Preliminary STAAR results released to the district include every student who tested, including late enrollments; accountability subsets that exclude late entrants will be published later. The presenter showed the district outperformed Region 10 and the state on several approaches/meets/mastery metrics across grade bands, with notable growth cohorts especially in reading and math.
Jennifer Akins, who presented CCMR results, said district efforts to expand pathways ' more dual credit, industry'based certifications and other career options ' pushed CCMR indicators higher. Akins reported the district exceeded 94% CCMR rates at each comprehensive high school for the class cohort measured, and said the class of 2025 was trending above 98% CCMR excluding late summer completions. She also reported high participation and credit hours in dual credit and AP: nearly 5,000 dual credit hours in 2023'24 and strong AP participation recognized by the College Board.
Trustees asked questions about how changes to science standards affect year'to'year comparisons; presenters said the state used overlapping standards in 2024'25, limiting direct comparisons to earlier years for science only. Trustees praised staff and teachers for the results while noting statewide reports should be interpreted with local context.
Ending: District staff said final accountability numbers will be updated in August/September after campus accountability subsets are calculated and summer testing completions are added.
