Councilmember McCurdy read the proclamation, which cites the U.S. House of Representatives’ designation of July as Parks and Recreation Month and lists benefits including physical and mental health, environmental protection, economic benefits (property values and tourism) and community resilience. McCurdy praised the city’s parks staff and parks board for maintenance and programming.
Parks and Recreation Director Sean Ray told council staff and residents can expect events during July including a Red, White and Pool celebration, programming for residents 55 and older, a community talk event, “moth night,” and free snow cones. Ray encouraged residents to check city social media and the city website for event details.
The proclamation was presented to parks staff and marked on the council record; no budget appropriation was made during the presentation.
