Cedar Hill Mayor Steven Mason honored with regionalism award from North Central Texas COG

Cedar Hill Mayor Steven Mason received the William Pitzick Regionalization Award from the North Central Texas Council of Governments at the Cedar Hill City Council meeting on June 24, 2025. The award recognizes elected leaders who advance regional cooperation across North Texas.

The award acknowledges work that extends beyond city boundaries to address shared challenges across the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Judge Little, who presented the honor, cited Mason’s regional leadership roles — including service on the Regional Transportation Council and other intercity boards — and singled out projects such as the city’s library, aquatic facility (the Lagoon) and land acquisitions for public open space.

Judge Little said the winner “leads with purpose, conviction, and a belief that local government should do more than manage. It should inspire, connect, and transform,” and noted Mason’s role in multi‑city initiatives including emergency management improvements, a regional jail initiative, and a multi‑city fire training program.

Mayor Steven Mason said the recognition was meaningful. “If I would’ve got this in real time, I would’ve been balling, man,” Mason said, noting the award reflected relationships he developed across county and regional lines.

The council observed the presentation during the regular agenda and did not take action related to the award. The recognition follows Mason’s recent work on regional transportation and public‑safety communication upgrades, as detailed by the presenter.
