Council reinstates vacation-rental license after owner says renewal notices returned undeliverable

The Hurricane City Council voted June 17 to allow a vacation-rental license to be reinstated after the owner said renewal mailings were returned undeliverable.
City staff explained the property had been a licensed vacation rental since 2017; renewal notices for January went out and were returned as undeliverable. Staff said the utility billing still went to the same address and that the license was marked inactive in April. The applicant—who said she and her family had moved and had submitted a mail-forwarding request with the U.S. Postal Service—told the council she did not receive the mailed notices and asked the council for “a little grace” so her rental can remain part of her household revenue. She said she had suspended future bookings and would comply with application requirements and the fire marshal’s inspection as soon as possible.
Councilman Thomas moved to reinstate the license; Councilman Preet seconded. Council members asked staff to coordinate directly with the applicant so the required paperwork and a fire-marshal inspection could be scheduled around upcoming guests. The motion carried on a voice vote.
