Denton releases plan and timetable for Westgate Drive reconstruction Phase 1

Dante Hale, project manager for the City of Denton, presented a prerecorded update on the Westgate Drive reconstruction Phase 1 project, saying the work will extend Westgate Drive “from the I 30 5 access road to the intersection of Bronco Way and Westgate Drive” and tie the new roadway into the existing north–south portion of Westgate Drive. Hale said construction is expected to begin in mid to late July 2025 and reach substantial completion in March 2026.

The project scope includes concrete roadways, pedestrian improvements such as sidewalks and curb ramps, driveways, wet utilities and street lighting. “The purpose of this project is to extend Westgate Drive … as well as extending to the south to tie the roadway into the existing North South portion of Westgate Drive,” Hale said.

Hale gave a brief schedule and status update: the city acquired the necessary right of way as of January 2025, the design engineer delivered a full plan set in March 2025, and the city anticipates starting construction in mid to late July 2025 with an estimated substantial completion in March 2026. He said most work will be constructed outside the current traveled roadway and that the project is expected to have minimal impacts to travelers.

The contractor’s anticipated working hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and occasional Sundays, 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Hale provided a project contact phone number, (940) 349-7104, and an email, dante.hale@cityofdenton.com, and directed listeners to the project webpage at www.discussdenton.com/westgate for updates.
