Oakland board approves paving contract; holds first readings on storage-container, parking and building-code changes

The Town of Oakland Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted on a set of budget and regulatory measures at its June meeting, approving a $336,910.60 contract for roadway improvements and moving several ordinances forward on their first readings.
The board accepted the low bid from Fowler Paving for a packaged paving project that covers a list of streets included in the meeting packet and authorized staff to execute the contract so work could start within about a week once bonds and paperwork are complete. Town Manager Harvey Ellis said the work is funded in this year’s budget. Alderwoman Marilyn Austin announced she would abstain from the vote because she is related to a person at Fowler; the board proceeded and the motion passed.
