Summary
Region 1 presenters and district operations staff outlined a shift from zone cleaning to team-based custodial tasks and proposed weekly, team-based grounds maintenance schedules as part of SB 1882 operational supports; board acknowledged the district will receive free training.
Region 1 and district operations staff presented an SB 1882 partnership update focused on building operations, custodial procedures and grounds maintenance. Presenters said the SB 1882 partnership includes operational components intended to create safe, clean and inspiring learning environments in addition to academic supports.
Custodial staff described a shift from zone cleaning (one custodian responsible for multiple areas) to a team-cleaning model in which workers are assigned by task (e.g., light-duty specialist, vacuum/sweeper specialist, restroom specialist, utility specialist) and perform synchronized routines to increase consistency and accountability. Presenters showed short training videos and described daily, weekly and monthly task lists including disinfecting desks and deep cleaning rotations.
On grounds maintenance, presenters proposed a weekly team mowing/edging/blowing schedule rather than irregular schedules that leave visible inconsistencies between campuses. Region 1 staff said they will provide free training to district staff across campuses and that the schedule has been piloted at other local districts.
Trustees responded positively. The district confirmed Region 1 will provide training at no charge and asked for implementation support and continued partnership to standardize maintenance and custodial operations.
