The Public Art Commission voted unanimously June 19 to authorize up to $10,000 from the public art fund to secure performers for CodeArt 2025 if outside sponsorship funding does not come through.
Staff said the allocation is intended as a backstop so the commission can confirm and book performers for programming tied to the October CodeArt festival, which will include projection mapping on the facade of City Hall. The roll-call vote recorded Commissioners Waltuck, Gordon, Stern, Miyagi and the chair voting yes.
Staff provided a list of performers and the commission heard staff estimates of individual costs: Doloresaurus (three nights) $1,300; an a cappella group $850; taiko drums $1,000; calypso drums $700; mariachi $325; Stanford Bhangra $2,000; and a silent disco close at $3,000. Staff said most performers are paid and two groups were expected to volunteer. At the time of the June 19 meeting staff reported no sponsorships secured but said conversations were underway with potential funders.
Staff said the funding would come from the public art fund (private development money), the same account used for projection‑mapping expenses, and that separate installations are funded through the CIP. The motion to approve up to $10,000 for CodeArt 2025 programming was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
