A Utah County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) representative briefed the Fairfield Town Council on June 18 about joining the county's CDBG consortium, explaining the program's purpose, national objectives and the application timeline.
Jessica Delora of Utah County told the council that participating with the county would make Fairfield eligible to apply for CDBG funds in future program years. She said entitlement funds go directly to cities with populations above threshold sizes and that smaller towns typically join county programs to apply. Delora listed eligible project types — sidewalks, water lines, curb and gutter, ADA ramps — and said joining is an option, not a requirement to submit projects.
Delora said the county's three‑year urban renewal cycle requires periodic renewal and that deadlines are somewhat flexible; council staff noted a draft deadline of June 27 for a resolution of intent and that participation could begin the following July if the town agrees. Council members discussed past participation and the fact that a prior mayor and council had opted out of county participation during an earlier qualification period.
Council members asked for a resolution to be prepared; staff agreed to place the item on next month's agenda so the council can formally decide whether to participate.
No grant award or project was approved at the June 18 meeting; the briefing was informational and aimed at making the town eligible to apply going forward.
