Commissioner Mann says Pennsylvania election modernization seminar highlighted need for consistent rules across counties

Commissioner Mann told the Beaver County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday that he attended a seminar at the Duquesne Law Center on modernizing Pennsylvania’s elections and that participants emphasized the need for clear, consistent rules across all 67 counties.
Mann said the seminar included speakers and officials such as Governor Tom Corbett, Rob Beecher (director of policy for the Shapiro administration), Jay Haas, Kamara Balawano and Serene Hess, the Indiana County commissioner who also serves as president of the CCAT. Representatives from Washington and Allegheny counties discussed issues they face.
Mann said a bill recently passed in the House on strict party lines that did not include voter ID, and he said that absence will likely prevent the measure from passing the Senate. He said the bill addressed some concerns but did not fix all issues county officials raised, and that there is ongoing discussion about revising "tax 77." The commissioner said the overriding goal is consistency so county election officials know and follow the same procedures statewide.
Mann also congratulated Riverside High School’s baseball team on what he said was a record sixth state title and said he had asked county staff to invite the team for recognition at a future board meeting.
