Committee approves $12,030 for supplemental environmental sampling at Hartford’s Centennial Park

The Washington County Executive Committee voted to allocate $12,030 from the Brownfields County Assessment Fund to the City of Hartford to complete supplemental assessment work at Centennial Park.
County staff said the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) required a second round of groundwater sampling as a condition for approving the site’s environmental reports. The county’s contribution will cover the additional sampling and reporting; the city will provide a 20% match of $2,406. County staff reported the site has already used about $47,000 of Brownfields assessment funding to date.
Adam (county staff) described the request as “to complete supplemental assessment work and update their environmental reports with the results,” and said the work should finish the assessment so the site can move toward case closure, subject to DNR review. Committee members noted that if further contamination is found the DNR could require more sampling or remediation and the county would be asked to consider any additional funding requests at that time.
The motion to award the funds was moved by Supervisor Kelling and seconded by Supervisor Chaudhron; the committee approved the request by voice vote. The transcript records the motion as passing without opposition; no roll-call tally was provided.
