Beaver County recycling site gets 10-year permit; county to seek landfill capacity

A Beaver County recycling department head said Wednesday that the county’s compost site has received a reissued permit covering another 10 years and that the county will begin seeking landfill capacity to serve residents over the next decade.
The permit reauthorization means the county may operate the compost site for another 10 years, the department head said. County staff also reported that Nestor Resources has started drafting a request for proposals to send to landfills; the RFP and a legal review by county staff members Nate and Karen were described as forthcoming. Officials said the county will announce the RFP publicly when it is released.
The department head described unexpected interest in the compost site: staff have scheduled one school bus visit and said about 40 people have indicated they will visit, including at least 15 representatives of state agencies. County staff said they are planning how to accommodate the group, which is still several weeks away.
County staff also said they hope to reopen the recycling center for Monday service starting in July and that a public announcement will follow.
County officials did not name potential landfill partners, provide RFP dates, or give a total cost estimate for future landfill capacity; those details were described as “up and coming” and subject to the upcoming RFP and legal review.
