Council schedules public hearing on one-way street change, will notify property owners

The Mookerton City Council agreed Tuesday to schedule a public hearing on whether to change a one-way street designation for a segment of city roadway and to notify nearby property owners.
Staff reported that review of earlier minutes and planning-and-zoning records showed the one-way designation should have applied to a different segment (from 500 West to 300 West) and that the council should follow the standard planning-and-zoning notification procedure: send letters to property owners within 300 feet, hold a public hearing and consider a sheriff's traffic study to inform the council's decision.
Councilors set the public hearing for early July, to be held just before the next council meeting at 4 p.m., and directed staff to mail notices to affected property owners within 300 feet of the street. The council said it would review any public comments and any study provided by the sheriff's office before taking final action.
No vote on the street change was taken at the meeting; the hearing will give residents a chance to comment before the council acts.
