Council discusses state reporting requirement for homeless service funding; no city funds allocated

The Mookerton City Council discussed a state reporting requirement for homeless service funding under Utah Code 35A-16-203 and said the city has not allocated any local funds for homeless services this year.
A staff member told the council that the state of Utah has hired an individual and that the statute requires larger cities to include homeless service funding in their budgets and to report that funding. The staff member said they responded that Milford is a small community of about 1,500 people and has not historically allocated funds for homeless services; individuals who become homeless in the community often stay with family or friends, the staff member said.
"At this point, we haven't seen a huge amount of homeless in Milford that I'm aware of," the staff member said, adding that the council can consider allocating funds in future budgets but that any funds would need to be reported to the state if allocated.
No vote was taken. The council did not allocate funding at the meeting and only discussed whether to consider funding in future budget cycles.
