The district's annual nursing report, presented by Lori Tuggle, listed staffing, acuity levels and the year's service totals. Tuggle said the district employed nine full-time registered nurses (five with bachelor's degrees, three with associate degrees) and met the recommended nurse staffing target (nurse recommendation based on acuity was 8.79).
Key figures presented by the nurse coordinator included approximately 31,949 total nursing encounters in the last school year (office visits, medication administrations and licensed procedures). Medication administrations totalled about 11,000; licensed medical procedures numbered about 3,280; office visits for illness/injury were about 17,000; the RN/counselor team provided 126 mental-health team interventions; nurses called 911 seven times and six students were referred to emergency rooms with parent transport. Vision/hearing/scoliosis/BMI screenings totaled about 8,900; approximately 230 students received glasses or hearing interventions after screening referrals.
Tuggle said 94.5% of students seen for illness or injury returned to class the same day and that the district had 191 immunization exemptions reported in the annual report but ended the reporting cycle with no noncompliant students (exemptions or catch-up schedules in place).
Tuggle closed by thanking the board and administration for support and noting one open nursing position at Allen Elementary.
