Bentonville board president, another member to resign July 1; board outlines appointment process

Board president Kelly Carlson announced her resignation from the Bentonville School District Board of Education, effective July 1; the board also received a resignation letter from member Joel Dunning effective July 1.
Carlson told the board her family will pursue an opportunity outside the district and that both resignation letters are effective July 1. She said state law and district policy allow the board to appoint qualified community members to fill vacancies until the next regular election cycle; the appointees will finish the terms until the next filing and election period expected in 2026.
The board said it has posted an application link on the district website under Leadership > Board of Education and will accept applications through June 25. The board plans to review submitted applications, convene on June 26 to discuss candidates and appoint two members; the newly appointed members’ first board meeting will be the July board meeting.
Willie moved to accept Joel Dunning’s resignation; Jeremy seconded. The board voted unanimously to accept the resignation. Willie later moved to accept Carlson’s resignation; Jennifer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Board members said they will recognize departing members at the June 26 meeting. The board asked staff to follow the posted process and timelines for application collection and candidate review.
