At the June 18 meeting, the curriculum subcommittee reported on recommendations from the district’s student conduct advisory committee and discussed how to expand restorative practices and responsive classroom approaches across Auburn Public Schools.
Committee member Corinne McGuigan summarized a presentation by Laura Shaw and Jillian Close that outlined the advisory committee’s recommendations for the past school year and how the district might better integrate Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). McGuigan said the discussion focused on ensuring restorative and responsive classroom practices are applied equitably across schools.
"We spoke with Laura Shaw and Jillian Close about the student conduct advisory committee. They went through recommendations that they've put together from for the last school year and, I learned a new acronym, MTSS, which is multi tiered system of supports," McGuigan said. The subcommittee said next steps include exploring ways to streamline restorative approaches and ensure equitable implementation across the district.
No formal policy votes were taken on June 18 on the recommendations; the report was informational and committee members invited follow-up questions.
