Washburn School principal resigns; Auburn superintendent outlines recruitment timeline

Superintendent Sue Doris told the Auburn School Committee on June 18 that Washburn School Principal Wood resigned effective in June and the district has put a timeline in place to recruit a replacement.

Doris said she met with Washburn staff and that staff interest in serving on a hiring committee will be considered; the district expects to select the hiring committee by mid-July. She said candidates are planned to be interviewed on July 8 and that the district aims to present a candidate to the committee at the July 16 meeting.

"We did have a resignation last week. Principal Wood has resigned from her position, and this will be effective in June this year," Doris said. On the hiring timeline, she said, "we have some interest in staff members participating on the hiring committee. . . . we have a few organizational meetings, and then we'll be selecting candidates and interviewing hopefully on July 8 so that we can have a candidate for you in time for the July 16 school committee meeting."

Doris described the steps as intended to support a smooth transition; no action or vote took place on June 18. Committee members did not request further public details about the resignation at the meeting.
