Columbus Art Commission reviews juried selection process for Goodale Park public art; maintenance and funding unresolved

The Columbus Art Commission received updates on a juried public-art program for Goodale Park on a meeting where commissioners discussed the selection timeline, budgets and who will maintain any installed work.

"The proposals are due back today, actually," said Jeff Smith, a member of the project committee, describing the call for entries and the status of submissions. Smith told the commission there are six finalists and that some artists submitted multiple pieces.

The presenters said the project team hopes to convene the jury around July 15 so the commission can consider recommended pieces at its August meeting. Smith said the goal is to begin fabrication soon so installations can be in the ground by spring: "we'd like to get these things, like, commissioning and rolling, later this summer," he said.
