Norwood board continues middle school landscaping discussion to July 28; comp plan engagement phase wraps up

The Norwood Planning Board voted unanimously to continue the public hearing on middle school landscaping and the walking path to July 28 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Senior Center to allow time for revised plans and further departmental review.
A staff member reported that some landscape items already noted in a previous memo have been installed while other elements ' including plantings near the walking path, near the generator and along the buffer between Washington Street and the field ' remain under review with the landscape designer. The staff member said the contractor will price changes after the designer issues a proposal and that the building committee will review those costs.
Planning staff also provided an update on the town's comprehensive plan process. The consultant-led effort has completed phase 2, which focused on community engagement and public outreach. Staff reported the process exceeded the initial participation target (the presentation said participation reached about 52% of the goal) and that the comp plan steering committee will meet to translate collected feedback into a draft vision and goals.
Board members asked whether continuing the hearing would delay construction or school operations; staff and the building commissioner's office advised on the record that continuing the hearing would not hold up construction or pose schedule conflicts with school activities. The applicant's representative agreed to provide updated drawings to staff; staff said they expected revised designs and another departmental review in early August and recommended continuing the public hearing into late July to allow that process to proceed.
The board's motion to continue was made and seconded on the record, and the vote to continue passed unanimously.
