The Oconee County Planning Commission recommended approval of special use case P250081 to allow a fully enclosed family entertainment center in the Village of Malcolm Bridge shopping center. Planning staff presented the request and recommended conditional approval with standard conditions.
Applicants Rodney Jones and Hank Randolph described a mixed entertainment venue that will include bowling lanes, an arcade, golf simulators, and a restaurant/bar. Jones said the project would help lease existing commercial space at the center and create a year‑round draw for the development. The applicants told commissioners they expect weekday hours beginning at 10:00 a.m., with later weekend hours (they indicated weekend closing around 11:00 p.m.), and that they will apply for applicable alcohol permits (beer, wine and distilled spirits) in conformance with distance and licensing rules.
Commissioners asked about parking, compatibility with surrounding businesses and distance restrictions for alcohol licensing. Planning staff and the applicants said the center was planned consistent with the Unified Development Code parking requirements for the center and that the applicant would administer required setbacks for permitted alcohol sales during the licensing review.
A motion to approve the special use with staff conditions passed; the planning commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Commissioners as required by county procedures.
