Appleton Public Library trustees hear near-complete new building update and annual report

Appleton Public Library trustees on June 17 were told the library’s new building is largely finished, with remaining work consisting of a handful of installations and final touches.
In a report presented during the administration update, a library staff member said donor signage has been installed and landscaping continues. "A few little tweaks still to be done, but otherwise, we're almost totally done with the signage," the staff member said. The presentation listed outstanding items including commissioning of hearing loops in the large meeting room and installation of loops at service desks, completion of functionality on the children’s guarding gate, exterior railing work and refinishing of the learning stairs with a rubberized surface instead of exposed concrete.
The annual report for 2024 was also presented to trustees. Otis, presenting the report, said the document keeps a consistent format, highlights selected initiatives tied to strategic pillars and includes a "by the numbers" comparison of the building’s first month of use (Feb. 15–March 15) to earlier periods to show early volume in the new facility. The report will be published on the library website and used by staff, including Colleen and Kara, when meeting with stakeholders.
Trustees discussed taking the building update off future agendas unless trustees want more detail; the staff member said they may return with a brief trustee training when the hearing loops are installed to explain how they work and why they are in place. "When the loops are installed, maybe I'll do a little... trustee training about the hearing loop and why we have loops and how they function," the staff member said.
The administration update also noted additional landscaping and minor finish work. The staff member said some donor signs that were complex to install went up last week. On the children’s guarding gate, the report said the physical gate was in place but not yet fully functional.
Trustees did not request further immediate action on the items and the administration report moved on to other agenda items.
