Runway 27 PAPI and medium-intensity lights commissioned; FAA review pending for GPS nighttime approval

Engineers reported that Runway 27’s Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems (offset and inline) were commissioned May 29 and are certified and in use. A night evaluation of the medium-intensity runway lights was completed June 4, the consultant said.
Lochner personnel and the airport’s engineers told the board there was a miscommunication and the FAA did not perform a flight check of the RNAV GPS approach for nighttime use at the time of other commissioning flights. Nadine of Lochner explained the history to the FAA and the agency is reviewing whether an additional flight check will be required for nighttime approval. Staff said they are communicating regularly with the FAA and hope another flight will not be needed, but acknowledged it is possible.
Airport staff also said the final remaining item is updating the published approach chart after FAA confirmation. The airport noted that nighttime-approval of the PAPI and lights is an important step for insurers and owners of higher-end aircraft based at the field.
