Cody council adopts property tax levy ordinance, levies full 8 mills with portion to fire district

City staff summarized the levy, noting the city’s maximum mill levy is 8 mills and the council is levying the full 8 mills; three of those mills will go directly to the fire district. Staff projected the city will receive about $946,000 in property tax revenue in FY2026 from the mills retained by the city.
Council members asked how recent statutory or assessor-related changes affected collections. Staff said the expected result was about a 16% decrease in property-tax receipts compared with FY2025 after the assessor’s final estimate; that reduction followed earlier public discussion of a 25% property tax decrease. The council approved the ordinance on a voice vote with a motion by council member Tamblin and a second by council member Sweat; the mayor declared the motion carried.
