Seniors program expands walkers, watercolor and talent-show events

Senior center staff reported expanded senior walking days, a new watercolor class taught by an ACU student, Zumba classes with growing attendance and upcoming senior talent-show auditions and Juneteenth events.
Anne Hall, leading the seniors update, told the board the senior walkers program expanded from one to two days (Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m.–10:30 a.m.) with participation rising to about 20–30 walkers at recent sessions. The class costs $2 per senior for the walking sessions.
Staff added a watercolor class taught by a student from Abilene Christian University and a recurring Wednesday Zumba class, which doubled into a lunchtime social thereafter. Attendance for Zumba rose from about 40 at its first session to roughly 50, creating demand for more spots. The seniors group will host Juneteenth activities (including bingo and lunch) and held auditions for the senior talent show, which will be open to the public and scheduled for Aug. 2.
Hall said the senior programs continue to draw participants and form social groups around classes, meals and events. The board heard no formal action; the report was informational.
