Pavilion fire at Sears, new camping signs and fountain cleanup noted in parks report

The Parks Division Manager reported several maintenance and operations items to the board.
Staff demolished the damaged pavilion at Arthur Sears after a fire that started when an individual lit a small fire in a trash can to keep warm; the fire spread to the wooden roof structure. The pavilion will be replaced with a surface-mounted pavilion to avoid cutting a concrete pad in future repairs. Staff are working with Extra Play to order the replacement and expect installation in a couple of months.
Parks crews installed new signs designating camping areas, no-parking zones and “no camping beyond this” limits after recent camping activity. The manager said public response has been positive and that the department met its projected camping revenue target for the year the day before the meeting.
Staff also performed the annual cleaning of the Everman Park fountain ahead of the CAF Festival; the manager said they remove debris and conduct maintenance so the fountain presents well when refilled.
Chris Gibson told the board that QR-code wayfinding tied to camping areas is in use and appears to be successful: “They’re using it,” and staff reported reaching projected camping budget targets. The board heard no formal action; these updates were provided for information.
