City reports progress on two new recreation centers; GV site shows steel framing

Gibson said steel framing is up at the GV Daniels site and crews have started visible structure work; Cesar Chavez is running about two to three weeks behind GV and could be up to four weeks behind depending on weather. Supply-chain progress has allowed steel shipments and concrete pours to move forward, Gibson said. Staff are tracking progress with photographs and drone footage that will be posted on the department website.
On a timeline question from the board, Gibson said construction work is targeting a soft completion in January–early February with an opening targeted for March, but cautioned timelines remain weather-dependent. When asked about budget impacts from tariffs and material costs, Gibson said the projects are currently on budget. Leslie (Parks staff) confirmed that the parks capital projects remain on budget.
Board members asked whether parking locations would change after construction; Gibson said parking remains in the same locations as before for both GV Daniels and Arthur Sears.
The board did not take formal action on the projects during the meeting; the update was recorded as informational.
