A longtime member of the Petoskey Downtown Management Board announced Tuesday that she will step down after more than two decades of service, and board members and city officials thanked her for her leadership.
The board member said she joined the board the month her daughter was born and that this meeting would be her last. She asked the board to consider two projects to carry forward: finding a new home for the Chamber of Commerce to allow the downtown office to expand into the existing chamber building as a dedicated visitor center, and installing a permanent Christmas tree in Pennsylvania Park.
Mayor and board members praised the departing member’s service and said they would pursue the tree idea; the mayor said he had already been in contact with local partners about a holiday tree. The board discussed the appointment process: the mayor appoints board members and encouraged anyone interested to apply through the city website, and board members were asked to recommend candidates to staff.
Board staff said the city posts an application on the city website and that the mayor will review recommendations; one board member noted most current board members were appointed by the mayor. The departing member said she would remain active in downtown events and businesses even after leaving the board.
