Administrator Bueno told the board that commissioners had discussed the bill at a prior meeting and previously asked constituents and local elected officials to contact state lawmakers to oppose the proposal. “The gist of it is…House Bill 335 proposes to eliminate” the inside-millage portion, Administrator Bueno said, and he provided a copy of a draft letter to the board for signatures.
The administrator said the draft reiterates the board’s earlier position to oppose the bill and restates the county’s earlier request to consider property valuation averaging and other changes brought forward during the post‑COVID period. Commissioners discussed the fiscal and political implications during the administrator’s report but did not take a separate, recorded vote on the letter during the meeting.
Commissioners Carpenter, Rogers and Dixon were on the dais and heard the update; staff said the letter was available for signatures after the meeting.
