The Ames Comm School District presented its annual goals report to the board, highlighting three goal areas — attendance, academic achievement and school climate — and reporting mixed results across measures.
Associate Superintendent Dr. Jeff Hawkins said the district met two attendance goals: overall attendance improved from about 92% with a 1.5% districtwide increase, and the percentage of students identified as chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the year) dropped by 9.3 percentage points districtwide. “We actually improved attendance rates for 8 out of 8 program and demographic groups,” Hawkins said, noting principals used a new attendance dashboard aligned to state law and buildings increased communication and targeted interventions.
