Board pursues website updates, mission statement and tabletop exercises as part of strategic planning

Board members used the June 16 meeting to begin planning public-facing updates and a strategic framework for Broadwater County public health.
Members proposed adding a concise mission statement and seasonal health-education items to the county’s Board of Health web page (for example, summer water safety and fire-season air-quality information). The board discussed a structure of short infographics linking to authoritative resources, an archive of past items and separate navigation for public health and environmental-health services so callers can find septic and permit applications. Dailene and other staff said they can support posting content within the county’s web template.
The board also discussed mental-health resources and a potential subscription to a digital therapy platform identified in the meeting as Credible Minds. A board member reported the platform’s annual contract would cost about $5,500; Ruby Taylor said the county has a mental-health grant and she would consult the granting agency to determine whether the subscription would be an allowable expense. Board members supported highlighting local mental-health trainings, 988 crisis resources and grassroots services such as a new domestic-abuse survivors group.
On governance, members reviewed a draft scope for the Board of Health and agreed the scope should include public-health policy, emergency preparedness, health-promotion and education, disease prevention and control, environmental-health oversight, health services oversight, community engagement and data collection (CHA/CHIP). The board proposed developing a concise strategic plan — a short, chart-style document that supports the scope — and set a goal to complete initial strategic-plan goals by next February.
Preparedness activities were a recurring theme. Members suggested partnering with LEPC and DES for tabletop exercises (examples mentioned included point-of-dispensing/mass-vaccination scenarios and other simulations offered by state partners, Simulation Montana and the Montana Public Health Coalition). The board agreed these exercises should be planned jointly, that invitations to community partners (hospital, school officials, fire and EMS) would be useful and that one or more tabletop exercises would be appropriate next spring.
Board members volunteered to draft mission-statement options and seasonal infographic ideas for the next meeting and to invite community partners for short presentations so the board can better understand available services.
No formal policy changes were adopted; the session focused on planning, outreach and next steps.
