Town staff and the police chief recommended several measures to address speeding and safety concerns on Green Hill Beach Road during the June 16 meeting.
Police recommended installing five additional speed‑limit signs along the 2.7‑mile roadway, deploying a temporary solar‑powered speed‑feedback trailer (to collect speed and volume data and display real‑time speeds), and purchasing a permanent solar speed‑feedback sign for approximately $7,600. The chief noted safe placement on the narrow road is challenging but said residents have offered private property locations for placement.
Town Manager Jim Manny said the police chief’s recommendations do not require council action and that the chief has federal enforcement grants and existing traffic‑safety resources that have been used townwide. Staff said the trailer will collect speed and volume data that can inform future enforcement or engineering changes.
Council members urged residents to continue reporting neighborhood speeding concerns to the police or town manager so staff can evaluate and respond.
