Leadership Council San Mateo asks city to become a partner in countywide leadership program

San Mateo — Representatives of Leadership Council San Mateo County presented the nonprofit’s cross-sector leadership programs and asked the City of San Mateo to become a city partner to help underwrite tuition and expand access.
Karen Hardy, co-president of the Leadership Council, outlined the organization’s 10-month immersive leadership programs for senior and emerging leaders and new half-day "Lead Local" workshops. Hardy said the program has nearly 300 alumni and countywide representation; roughly 40% of participants receive full or partial scholarships, and the per-person program cost is about $5,600 while tuition is $3,900. She asked the council to consider city partnership levels that would provide discounted seats and scholarships for San Mateo staff, community leaders and small-business owners.
The presentation included an alumni testimony from Alexandria Gillen, who described collaboration among nonprofit and library partners brought about by Leadership Council project teams. Council members thanked the presenters and said staff will receive further details and follow up with the city manager’s office about partnership options.
What’s next: Leadership Council will provide the city manager with partner-level packages and staff will review potential sponsorship or partnership contributions and report back to council as part of the city’s budget and community partnership processes.
