Tehachapi Unified appoints members to Facilities Advisory Committee in unanimous vote

The Tehachapi Unified School District Governing Board on Aug. 26 appointed members to a newly constituted Facilities Advisory Committee and voted 7‑0 to confirm the slate.

Trustee Napier moved and Trustee Sweeney seconded the motion to appoint the following individuals: Philip Coates, Sarah Parton, Danielle Alonzo, Amanda Ramirez, Pamela Mangelsdorf, Bonnie Porter, Corey Costello, Ryan Grimes, Corey Torres, Raymond Schmidt, Deborah Haberle, Michael Grimes and Grayson Kelly. President Kaminski called the vote; the motion carried 7‑0.

District staff described the committee’s charge and composition during the agenda item: the advisory body will include parent representatives from each of the district’s six school sites, community members, employee‑organization representatives, a student member and a board member. Staff said the committee serves in an advisory capacity to the board and that the district facilitator (district staff) will provide support.

Administrators noted that Tehachapi Independent Learning Academy (TILA) had not received an applicant and that Bonnie Porter agreed to serve as the TILA representative in order to fill the vacancy. Staff also said one applicant, Carlos Avedo, requested his application be removed.

Why this matters: The Facilities Advisory Committee will advise trustees on capital projects, site priorities and the district’s master‑planning process; trustees asked staff for periodic updates and requested an overview to appear on the board’s calendar in coming months.

The motion to appoint the committee was made by Trustee Napier and seconded by Trustee Sweeney and carried by a 7‑0 vote.
